Spas and relaxation

After leaving the hectic lifestyle that my sister and family seem to lead, I spent a few days in Jordan where I basically relaxed and slept – the first night I slept for 12 hours!!!

We went to the Dead Sea and the most extravagant hotel that I have ever been to complete with about 7 different swimming pools and spa treatments (although the only one that I went for was the Dead Sea floating experience and the dead sea mud). For those who haven’t been to the Dead Sea, it is an incredible experience, if rather odd. The water feels almost oil like in its consistency and your skin will tingle quite a lot (especially if you have any cuts or have shaved that day!) and is positively painful if you get any water in your eyes.

I got to go to a small art gallery in Amman with an exhibition that was by a friend of my friend (my friend is very arty and we had lots of discussion about art ideas). She showed me the best cafe in town (Wild Jordan) with natural food which helps you to feel content and almost self righteous as you scoff your chocolate brownie!

In the evening we had a lady come over to the house to give us pedicures and manicures. I was trying to make myself go to the Turkish Baths on my last morning, but was feeling a little uncomfortable and nervous about it so didn’t go in the end – I think that that is something to do with a good friend and as my friend is pregnant she couldn’t do it with me. Still there is always next time...

In between all of that pampering, I did do some more cultural things...I walked around an extensive Roman city in Jerash one day, had lovely local Arabic food, and wandered about downtown Amman with its fruit and veg market, wine stalls able to whip you up a Chanel No. 5 for a bargain price, the spice shops, the tacky children toy shops, and all the hustle and bustle.

Jordan has a lot to offer and I really should have planned to have longer there, although perhaps there will be another opportunity in the future if I am able to visit my sister in Israel again...a trip to the Red Sea, to Petra, through Wadi Rum, and canyoneering, climbing and abseiling through many a desert gorge...
