Quichua Communities

As well as trying to keep the door open with HCJB to help on their water projects and manual, I had a great week with a group of American water engineers that came over at the end of June. We were able to see the work of HCJB water projects in various Quichua communities in Chimborazo region. I have never been to this area and never been in purely Quichua communities in Ecuador before, so it was a really interesting experience. It was also great to get to know some of the HCJB staff more, particularly two of the Ecuadorian engineers.

The views were incredible, particularly the second day after sleeping on the floor and feeling VERY cold (had to wear all my clothes and still couldn’t feel my toes!), to wake up to an amazingly clear view of Chimborazo volcano covered in snow (the furthest point from the centre of the earth!) was just awesome! We also went to Shell where HCJB have another base. Shell is on the edge of the Amazon and is where their projects for communities in the jungle are coordinated. We got to see and discuss and hear about their water projects in the Sierra (mountains) and in the Oriente (jungle) and share together with the communities. It was a really helpful and good week.
