Most of you will know that I spent 3 months from August this year in Kenya, mostly in Marsabit area in north Kenya. This was a short term assignment with Tearfund, but working alongside one of their local partners there to help build their capacity and quality of programming as they looked to respond to the drought crisis.
It an interesting posting, but quite frustrating and slow moving due to trying to empower the partner to do the work rather than just getting on with the work. It was good to see another part of the world, meet people, try and draw alongside them and develop their work. It was, however, quite lonely at times with not many people around to really make friends and hang out in the free times and there is not much to do in Marsabit! It was also a LONG time to be away from Edwin, but it was good for us too and really cemented our relationship.
It was good to see my brother and his family on a few occasions too. I also got the chance to meet up with various friends whilst in Nairobi and I got to see my first lions in the wild in Nairobi National Park, so lots of highlights too!
I spent a few days back in the UK on the way back and I am sorry for so many of you that I was not able to see. It was good to catch up with my parents and with some other family. I was itching to get back to Ecuador and Edwin though!!!
After a long flight back, Edwin was there at the airport to meet me and we spent a lovely weekend in Quito and Mindo on the way back to Santo Domingo. Now it feels like I haven’t been away, but I am not doing a trip away for that long on my own again!!!
