Travelling; Sudanese style

Ok, so I am in Kodok as I didn't delay. I didn't get my bags when I wanted to (i.e. before travelling to Kodok yesterday), but when I called again on Tuesday morning they told me that the bags were at Juba already. As I was at the airport waiting to get on my flight to Malakal, I went to check if my bags really were there and they were!!! Yey!!
Although I had had a major breakdown about not getting my stuff in time, I was feeling positive again after a good pray, some fab friends lending me clothes and things, and discovering that the only supermarket in Juba does sell essentials like shampoo AND they were selling DVDs with like 16 films on them for 5 dollars!!! So not only did I manage to get everything I needed for my trip, I had new entertainment as well! It made me realise that I was holding onto my 'stuff' too much and I needed to let go and live more simply.
And the great thing is that I will have all of the stuff I got over my break when I get back on Saturday!
PLUS, I am writing this blog entry from my room under the only comfortable place to be - under a mosquito net - WIRELESS internet in the middle of nowhere!!! How cool is that?!
I had the most interesting journey to get here too - after my flight to Malakal, I hang out with some Medair guys until I got picked up and instead of going on our boat to Kodok, we crossed the river on the local 'ferry' and then drove some 3 hours back to Kodok. Now, this would have been normal if there had been a road, but there was only a Southern Sudan road for 70% of the way (i.e. some tracks in the bush to follow) and the rest of the way we were driving in the bush to avoid the places were the river was still across the road. Thankfully none of this area is mined. That, or we were very lucky!
We got to go on the boats today though to go and visit one of the villages we are doing some work in. I saw a snake in the water! My first sighting of a snake in Southern Sudan! I was beginning to think people were lying when they said that there were lots of snakes here!
Apparently there are lots of hippos here too. They come up right to the fence of the compound at night. So I am now on the lookout! How cool would that be?!
So now, feeling positive about being here and away from the hungry mosquitos, I just need to get into work a bit more and remember all the things that I need to be doing!
