I have been spending a lot of time trying to perfect my nursing skills, and cooking, and doing various homemade Christmas decorations in a bid to get my house "Christmas ready". I am not that bothered by Christmas to be honest, which is great because Christmas is not that big here, but I have a friend here who really loves Christmas and so I am trying to ensure she has a special time despite missing her family a lot.
We had a first installment of "Mission Christmas" the other evening with a girlie evening at mine with some Brit friends, some mulled wine, Christmas carols and a bit of Christmas cookie decoration. It was a lovely time!
There seems to be a lot of glitter everywhere...making big glitter stars at the boy's house with his sisters for the church decorations, and then here at mine with a couple of girls (2 sisters who we sometimes take to church with us) over for Sunday lunch at mine this weekend, and of course some glitter snowflakes needed to be made!
I have made red and green paperchains, Christmas trees and gifts for the house and have also got some fairy lights up now, although these are hardly ever on as they are musical. The music can be turned off, but after a while of being on, the lights seem to take things into their own hands and start playing irritating Christmas music...
We also had our Latin Link Christmas lunch this last Saturday, up in Quito. It was a lovely time, with a ridiculous amount of food, turkey and roast potatoes, and even pears in wine (care of the Dutch couple we have on our team now) and I was VERY full. We had a visit from Santa for present giving, and after a lovely post feast snooze on the sofa from me, we played some Christmassy games, and sang some carols. 12 days of Christmas with everyone having their day was awesome and I made the most of my "5 G-O-L-D rings!"
I was up early on Sunday to get back down to Santo Domingo for church and the teenage class Christmas drama practice and have spent some of today getting some props ready for the main event on Christmas Day.
Other than all things Christmassy, I have been spending lots of lovely time with the boy and trying to keep nudging the potential work here to get a move on with paperwork that they need to do for me to be able to work legally with them, and I have also been doing paperwork to get my driving license here. And TODAY I have a lovely new and shining driving license!!! Yippeee! Now we just need to continue to fully cure our car which has also been a bit sickly of late and we are all systems go!!! And just in time for my friend to visit between Christmas and New Year! Yey! Also been trying to get things done for some work with Latin Link on contingency plans and doing more planning for the cafe project...
Oh, and in this time too, I have also had a lovely visit overnight to Esmeraldas to see a dear friend who I had been longing to see for a while. I went with the boy and one of his friends and we had a lovely little group in the evening for some food and lots of laughter...lovely!

On Friday we have the big family thing in the evening (around 25 of us I think) for Christmas celebrations and I am on cake duty, so Friday will be a baking day! The celebrations will go on late into the night and then Saturday will be up to Quito to meet my friend! :)
Hope you are all having a lovely time!!!
